Magnetic Encoders
Phoenix America Inc. rotary magnetic encoders employ magnetic based technology reaching multiple channel outputs with resolutions topping 10,000 counts per revolution. Phoenix America Inc.’s unique magnetic encoder design eliminates the challenge and expense of conventional encoder bearing systems aling with associated brackets, couplers and mounts. You won’t find specifications on Bearing Materials and Bearing Life on Phoenix America Inc. magnetic encoders since they don’t need to employ a separate bearing system. Your shaft and bearing system is all that is necessary.
Low Resolution Incremental Encoders
The P9100 line of magnetic encoders offer resolutions up to 60 counts for every inch diameter of magnetic rotor. Phoenix America has a wide array of tooled magnet rotors to choose from and for higer volume custom applications rotors of any size can be tooled.
The P9100 series magnetic encoder feature two channels of square waves during rotary movement, typically 90 degrees out of phase from one another.
Medium Resolution Incremental Encoders
The P9500 line of magnetic encoders offer resolutions up to 512 counts for every inch diameter of magnetic rotor. For applications where there are minimal packaging constraints, a P9500 magnetic encoder with of P58 series magnetic target wheels can deliver 1900 cycles per revolution on each of its quadrature channels.
An incremental encoder produces a series of square waves during rotary or linear movement. The number of square waves produced per rotary turn or given linear length is referred to as ‘resolution’.

High Resolution Incremental Encoders
The P9700 Series magnetic encoder devices currently can achieve up 5000 cycles on a 1 inch Magnetic Target Wheel. If additional space is available in your application, integrating a P9700 magnetic encoder with a P59 3 5/8 inch magnetic target wheel can deliver over 18,000 cycles per revolution on each channel. Taking advantage of each channel and by looking at the rising and falling edge of each cycle, a user has 72,500 pieces of information.
Absolute Encoders - Look for our release of a Magnetic Absolute Encoder targeted for the second half of 2007. This launch will continue the advance of magnetic based encoding into the absolute environment. An absolute encoder provided a unique output for each position. Absolute encoders are very useful in applications where a device is inactive for a long period of time.
Base 10 Encoders - Looking for Resolutions of 100, 500, 1000, 2000, 2500, 5000 or 10,000 counts? The flexible nature of the Phoenix magnetic encoders can provide Base 10 counts.
Base 2 Encoders - 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048, 4096, 8192 – All these Base 2 counts are possible with our P9100, P9500 and P9700 series magnetic encoders.
