ErP Directive 2015 for Blowers
Product News Thursday, July 31, 2014: EngNet - Engineering Network
ErP Directive 2015 for Blowers
As part of the Kyoto Protocol, the European Union agreed a package of directives and targets to reduce the CO2 emissions by 20% until the year 2020. The Ecodesign Directive is an action to achieve the aim.
ErP Directive
In 2005 the Ecodesign Directive was called EuP Directive (Energy using Products-Directive). As of 2009 the name ErP Directive was created (Energy related Product-Directive). In 2010 minimum requirements and binding limits have been set for blowers.
When is the ErP Directive binding?
As of January 01, 2013, only blowers that meet the minimum requirements of the Regulation may be placed on the market in the European Economic Area (first stage). The second and final stage, which prescribes even higher efficiency grades, is due to enter force as of January 01, 2015.
Which requirements are valid for blowers?
The Energy-related Product implementing regulation defines precise requirements regarding the implementation of the Energy-related Product Directive in the area of blowers. It specifies minimum efficiency grades for blowers driven by motors with an electric input power between 125 W and 500 kW. In contrast to the IEC 60034-30-2008 standard that came into force in June 2011, which only prescribes minimum efficiency grades for motors (IE2/IE3), the Energy-related Product Directive looks at the entire operational system, consisting of the control electronics (if available), motor and impeller. In this case it is irrelevant whether the blower is operated as a standalone unit or as a component of a system. The Directive does not affect side channel blowers.
Are Elektror blowers ErP-compliant?
Thanks to continuous optimization and energy efficiency measures, the majority of our blowers already meet the requirements of the Energy-related Product Directive. We will also be replacing some units with more efficient variants. For further information please download the ErP-brochure on the left.
How can I recognize ErP-compliant Elektror blowers?
ErP-compliant blowers can be identified by the CE marking among other things. The blowers are also identified by an additional ErP rating plate on the blower housing (recognizable from the label “EcoDesign2009/125/EG”).
