Kwikspace In Big Demand

Kwikspace In Big Demand

Product News Wednesday, June 9, 2010: Kwikspace Modular Buildings

In a country crying out for more schools, hospitals, houses and accommodation of all kinds, often in an emergency situation with time and finance a serious constraint, there is an obvious place for a provider of modular factory-built accommodation. It is cheaper and can be delivered much faster than anything built by conventional methods, and the quality is good.

Kwikspace Modular Buildings pioneered manufactured accommodation in South Africa some 40 years ago, with speed of delivery from date of order to physical occupation their main goal. Since then their products have gained wide acceptance throughout South Africa and neighbouring countries, and have been delivered to site by ship, raft, rail, crane and road to a wide range of destinations.

Today Kwikspace is the largest and most diverse manufacturer of factory built accommodation in the whole of Africa. Its head office and main factory are at Kliprivier, with highly active branches at Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Durban. It is noted especially for the supply of site offices, classrooms, ablution blocks and residential units, with design offices available to include any special requirements a client may have.

Kwikspace’s Cape Town operation, working out of Blackheath Industria, has been kept busy of late, says sales manager Tony Collison. Recently they were commissioned for the manufacture, transport to site in sections and erection of a temporary prefabricated structure for use by the Eersterivier Day Hospital during renovations and extensions. The structure consisted of 11 sections, each 11,5m x 3,5m, making a total of 448 sq. metres. Kwikspace were also responsible for the site works and reticulation. The contract, from date of order to completion on site at the end of April, was carried out in eight working weeks. Moreover, says Collison, the hospital was so impressed by the quality of the modular units that they elected to purchase them outright for ongoing use. Clients have the option of purchase or rental.

Two months ago Kwikspace received an order from Klapmuts Primary School for the supply, delivery and erection, including all site works, reticulation and paving, of 20 modular classrooms. The order was completed, and the school was up and running, within 5 weeks.

At the site of the 67 000-seater Greenpoint Stadium, under construction by the Murray & Roberts-WBHO Joint Venture, Kwikspace were responsible for the supply of eight ablution blocks, as well as site camps for the contractors.

And at Swellendam, they installed two double-width 18m x 7m units with steel chassis, insulated walls, polyester-coated panels and chromadek roofing for the Old Apostolic Church. These are just some of the recent contracts undertaken by Kwikspace, and in difficult economic times the advantages offered by the company’s modular units are very attractive, Collison points out.

“The great thing about our units is that they are of excellent quality, can be easily and quickly delivered just about anywhere, and can be relocated and used in different places time and again. And the basic unit can be modified to suit clients’ requirements, with additional features added as required. Last but by no means least, they are very reasonably priced,” says Collison.
