Donaldson Expands PowerCore® Range with New SVU

Overfills, over-pressurization and height risks at the top of silos are some of the major safety issues for maintenance staff tasked with silo ventilation in cement plants. Donaldson’s new Silo Venting Unit (SVU) is designed to reduce component failures and ensure operator safety.  

First launched in Europe in April 2017, the performance, reliability and ergonomy of the SVU is derived from a combination of advanced filtration technology, unique form factors and high performance reverse jet cleaning to ensure effective dust release and a continuous level of operation for longer.

The SVU series is designed for use on pneumatically filled storage silos with airflows of up to 2000 m3/ hr.  The new unit promises major added advantages including fewer filters, better cleaning, and shorter maintenance. According to Donaldson’s General Manager Industrial Air Filtration, Jacques Cato, the power of the SVU is in its compact design. “The SVU has is especially designed for small silo venting applications. Most products currently on the market tend to be extremely tall stature, making it installation and maintenance difficult at dizzying heights. 54% shorter than traditional silo venting collectors, our innovation is easy to handle, set-up and maintain.”

It comes as no surprise that at the core of the SVU’s unique design and dramatic downsizing is PowerCore®, the most innovative filtration technology from Donaldson.  Donaldson’s PowerCore® technology combined with its well-proven Ultra-Web® advanced nanofiber technology allows more effective filter area to be packaged in a smaller space. With more media packed into a smaller space and a simplified airflow path, PowerCore® filter packs provide high performance with a low pressure drop.

The PowerCore® filter pack is small, lightweight, and easily handled by one person. Pneumatic Silo Venting applications typically require up to 6 filter bags (24 m2). Tested on the field at industrial plants in France and Belgium, Donaldson’s SVU takes 2 PowerCore® compact filter packs, making it one of the most cost effective options on the market today.

Utilizing a Directed Flow Inlet, PowerCore® collectors manage airflow and velocities below the filters. The optimized air management technique effectively keeps the bottom of the filter packs clean, causes most dust particles to drop out, and prevents filter abrasion. Donaldson PowerCore® packs can last anything between 10 and 24 months.
