TECTRA AUTOMATION SUPPLIES SOLUTION FOR MOTOR MANUFACTURING PLANT

Tectra Automation, the sole distributor of Bosch Rexroth products in sub-Saharan Africa, has supplied Bosch Rexroth pneumatic components to Volkswagen South Africa for use in its new Polo manufacturing line.
The components, pneumatic valves, service units, pneumatic cylinders, linear slides and carriages, were all supplied towards the end of 2009. According to Mick McSorley, Port Elizabeth Branch Manager, Tectra Automation, the company’s consulting pneumatics engineer, Colin Liebetrau, worked with VWSA’s project department to design a solution to be used on all of the VW250 body shop fixtures.
“We developed the basic diagram examples for the fixtures with and without hands-on / air-off applications for safety. Our team also set up a specification regarding the service units, throttle valve application for cylinders and clamps, load holding applications and a general guide governing the maximum amount of clamps per valve. These safety specifications were then given to the OEM as a guideline during manufacture,” says McSorley.
Bosch Rexroth has always been a preferred supplier of linear technology products, such as guide rails and aluminium profiles.
“The Bosch Rexroth pneumatic range was new territory for our client. However, with the reliability, price, and quality of the products, as well as our long standing relationship with VWSA, we were selected to deliver the solution.”
The plant is fully commissioned and production has begun.
