ACTOM Air Pollution Control wins contract for emissions control upgrade at Namibia Custom Smelters

Company News Thursday, November 8, 2012: ACTOM Air Pollution Control

ACTOM Air Pollution Control has been successful in winning a contract with Namibia Custom Smelters to upgrade furnace fume-extraction systems in the company’s copper smelter in Tsumeb, Northern Namibia.

The contract forms part of a comprehensive expansion and upgrade of the smelter currently in progress, for which the engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) contractor is SNC Lavalin South Africa, part of the international SNC-Lavalin mining and metallurgy group.

The two reverse pulse bag filters, each with a capacity of 36 m3/s to extract secondary tapping fumes from the Ausmelt and Reverb furnaces respectively, are being manufactured and installed by ACTOM Air Pollution Control to meet new emission requirements of less than 50 mg/Nm3

The contract, which is due for completion by the end of 2012, also includes supply and installation of ancillary equipment, including a total of about 440 m of ducting.
