Wheelabrator Strengthens presence in Aerospace Industry with new Peening System

Wheelabrator® technology continues to strengthen its presence in the Aerospace sector. A computer-controlled peening system, recently supplied to a producer of wing spars and other structural members for a well known aircraft manufacturer, helped them obtain their customer's approval for their process and accreditation to the Nadcap audit. Wheelabrator understands the importance of conforming to specifications and builds such features in the machines to help compliance. Such features, basic to aerospace peening machines and specifically to the subject application, include:

• Peening top and bottom of aerospace structural members to prevent warping
• Peening accomplished by two nozzle carriages traversing along the part width as the part travels on a non-marking roll conveyor
• Closed-loop pneumatic circuit for air pressure
• Closed feedback loop for media flow
• Encoders to sense carriage/nozzle position at any given time
• Simple but sophisticated Graphic User Interface complete with real-time monitoring of process parameters and reporting capabilities
