Wheelabrator Table machines are ideal for cleaning wind tower components

Product News Tuesday, July 28, 2009: Wheelabrator

Wheelabrator® Table machines provide efficient blasting solutions for large components not suitable for other work handling methods. The machines are designed to minimize operational costs and installation challenges faced with other types of equipment by requiring minimal floor space with no costly pits. Each unit is pre-wired for quick and easy connection to a power supply; significantly reducing both installation expense and start-up time. Wheelabrator Tables are ideal for use in the removal of scale and rust, shot peening and surface profiling processes required in preparing wind tower components.

Depending on surface preparation requirements within the wind power industry, Wheelabrator offers two models to choose from, and each comes equipped with a work height clearance of 50-inches with custom heights available on request. The low profile system allows for installation in facilities faced with limited height requirements.

The maximum load weight of wind tower components ranges from 4,000 to 6,000 lbs., with component dimensions ranging from 60 to 84 inches in diameter and up to 50-inches high. Work Tables rotate at a five (5) RPM rate; driven by a direct connected gear motor. Tables are equipped with two 10 or 15 HP, 3600 RPM direct driven 13 ½-inch diameter Autoblast® wheel assemblies. Depending on wheel horsepower, the abrasive flow rate ranges from 580 to 720 lbs per minute with a total storage hopper abrasive charge of 2,000 lbs.

The standard Wheelabrator Table cabinet is constructed of manganese steel and equipped with replaceable liners; designed for a heavy-duty continuous operation using steel shot blast media. A catch hopper situated below the perimeter of the cabinet door is able to catch loose abrasive, efficiently directing the media into the reclaim system. Most routine maintenance and inspection can be performed at floor level; a convenient and efficient solution for any plant site.
