Step Down Transformers

A transformer is an electrical device that transfers energy from one circuit to another. The transformer includes to coils, a primary and a secondary. When the primary coil is subjected to a varying current throught he windings, a varying magnetic flux is generated in the coil. The varying magnetic flux results in a varying magnetic field in secondary winding, which in turn leads to a voltage. When a load is connected to the secondary winding, electric current flows and energy is transferred from the primary to the secondary coil. The ratio of primary to secondary windings is directly related to the ratio of the voltages. Therefore, when the secondary coil has fewer windings than the primary coil, the voltage is stepped down through the transformer.
